Fourth Quarter Surge Leads UW-Oshkosh to Home Win

Oshkosh, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 85-76 at UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon in Kolf Sports Center. The Eagles, ranked 23rd on D3hoops.com, drops to 15-6 overall and 6-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Titans improve to 12-9 overall and 5-5 in the conference.

UW-Oshkosh led by as many as five in the first quarter, including 13-8, with 5:46 remaining on a Leah Porath jumper. UWL scored the next six points to take a 14-13 advantage after field goals from Kyah Steiner, Dani Craig and Lexie Higgins. The Titans later led, 20-16, but a Craig three-pointer with 2:21 left and Kat Fitzgerald jumper with 1:37 remaining gave the Eagles a 21-20 lead after the first quarter.

Fitzgerald hit another jumper to give UWL a 23-22 advantage with 8:13 left in the second quarter, but UW-Oshkosh went on a 12-2 run to lead, 34-25 with 5:40 remaining on a Nikki Arneson three-pointer. The Titans took their largest lead of the half at 39-29 on Olivia Campbell's free throw before the Eagles cut the deficit to 43-37 with 2:21 remaining on a pair of Delaney Schoenenberger free throws. Arneson hit her fifth three-point field goal of the first half to give UW-Oshkosh a 46-37 halftime lead. 

UWL shot 70.8% (17-of-24) from the field in the first half, including 25.0% (one-of-four) from three-point range, and 50.0% (two-of-four) at the line. Craig had nine points and Anna Gilles eight. UW-Oshkosh shot 60.7% (17-of-28) from the field, including 61.5% (eight-of-13) from three-point range, and 80.0% (four-of-five) at the line. Arneson scored 24 points, going five-of-five from three-point range, while Porath finished with 15 first-half points, finishing three-of-four from three-point range. 

UW-Oshkosh led, 51-45, with 5:50 left when UWL went on a 17-5 run to take a 62-56 lead on a Schoenenberger three-pointer. The Eagles led, 62-59, after three quarters after Campbell hit a three-pointer for the Titans with :01 left. 

UWL took a 67-61 lead with 7:05 remaining after Casandra Warmsley made a pair of free throws.  The game was tied, 70-70, with 2:43 left after UWL's Ava Kramer made a pair of free throws. Karsyn Rueth then hit a three-pointer on UW-Oshkosh's ensuing possession and the Titans would never trail the rest of the game. The Titans went 12-of-12 at the free throw line in the final 1:51. 

UWL shot 50.9% from the field, including 29.4% (five-of-17) from three-point range, and 76.5% (13-of-17) at the line. Steiner led the Eagles with 17 points and eight rebounds. She finished eight-of-nine from the field. Schoenenberger finished with 15 points while Craig had nine. Higgins and Gilles each had eight. 

UW-Oshkosh shot 52.0% from the field for the game, including 54.5% (12-of-22) from three-point range, and 84.0% (21-of-25) at the line. Arneson had a game-high 33 points and nine rebounds while Porath finished with 17 points and Campbell 16. Arneson was five-of-six from three-point range and 10-of-11 at the line.
