La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team earned a 144-126 dual victory over UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon in Richard L. Pein Natatorium. The Eagles improve to 2-2-1 overall and finish the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual season with a 2-1-1 record.
UWL's Brevin Kruse, Jacob Brehmer, Kyle Kleiner and AJ Von Berge took first in the 200 medley relay (1:39.19) while Von Berge, Kipp Dietrich, Colin Kalsbeek and Kleiner finished second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.27). The Eagles' Andrew Perrin won the 1,000 freestyle (10:22.09) and finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:04.19). He was also third in the 200 butterfly (2:28.40).
UWL captured the 200 butterfly with Andrew Groth finishing first (2:13.11) while Kipp Dietrich was second (2:17.70).
Kruse won the 100 backstroke (56.03) while also earning second in the 200 backstroke (2:03.80). Kalsbeek took the 100 freestyle (49.21) and finished second (22.57) in the 50 freestyle. Kleiner took third in the 50 freestyle (22.72).
Cameron Pumilia swept the one (163.45) and three-meter (142.95) diving titles.
UWL had the top-three finishes in six different events. Von Berge was second in the 100 butterfly (55.70) and 200 freestyle (1:49.22) while Trevor Andersen took third (1:49.38). Andersen was also third in the 500 freestyle (5:04.28).
Matthew Geils placed third in the 200 backstroke (2:14.13) with Jacob Brehmer second in the 200 breaststroke (2:27.49) and Owen Montheard third (2:28.32). Joah Strauss finished third in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.29).
UWL returns to the pool at the WIAC Championships on February 13-15 at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer.
