La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team earned a 3-0 (27-25, 25-23, 25-13) home win over Luther College (Iowa) Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 8-7 overall while the Norse drops to 4-12.
Luther (Iowa) led 17-11 on a Sydnee Schreier kill in the opening set when UWL went on a 9-0 run to lead 20-17. The set was tied four more times, including 25-25, after a Norse serving error. Luther (Iowa) had led, 25-24. A pair of kills from
Emma Lawrence gave UWL the first set.
Courtney Conway had 17 digs Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles raced out to a 9-2 lead in second set and later led, 17-10 on a Meghan Paider kill. The Norse scored 10 of the next 13 points to force a 20-20 tie on a Sam Sixta ace. Lawrence recorded back-to-back kills and
Liz Lansink had a kill for a 23-21 lead. Luther (Iowa) cut it to 24-23 after a UWL ball handling error, but Lawrence's kill secured the final point and set victory for the Eagles.
UWL again led, 9-2, in the third set. Luther (Iowa) cut it to 15-9, but could get no closer the rest of the set. The Eagles scored the final five points of the set.
Lawrence led UWL with 20 kills while hitting .395 (20-3-43).
Anna Rossner finished with nine kills while Lansink recorded eight.
Abbey Fox had 42 assists as the Eagles hit .265 (48-13-132).
Courtney Conway led UWL with 17 digs with Fox finishing with 13.
The Eagles had 7.0 team blocks. Fox recorded five block assists.
Rachael Luebbe and Paige Yontz led Luther (Iowa) with seven kills while Brooke Greenwood and Schreier each had six. Sixta recorded 25 assists as the Norse hit .153 (34-14-131). Sixta and Greta Stauffacher each had 12 digs for Luther (Iowa) with Grace Meyers finishing with 11. The team totaled 3.0 blocks.
UWL returns to action Tuesday, October 1 at Viterbo University (Wis.) at 7 p.m.
