Northfield, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team earned a 2-1 double overtime victory over Carleton College (Minn.) Wednesday night at Bell Field. The Eagles improve to 5-4-1 on the season while the Knights drop to 4-2-1.
The Eagles struck first at 55:08 when
Sophie Amundson notched her seventh goal of the season. The goal was assisted by
Lauren Yass, her third of the season. The Eagles would keep the lead at the end of the first half, 1-0. UWL finished with eight shots in the first half while Carleton (Minn.) recorded six.
Carleton (Minn.) tied the game at 82:39 when Nora Mertz scored an unassisted goal, her third overall goal of the year. The Eagles finished with eight shots in the second half with the Knights recording six.
After a scoreless first overtime, UWL secured the win when
Kaitlyn Villars scored at 108:33, assisted by
Julia Smith and
Camryn Hart. It is Villars' fifth goal of the season, including third-game winner.
UWL finished with 18 shots overall, including 12 on goal. Villars had six shots, all coming on goal.
Natalie Jamison and
Hayley Hargroder each had three shots with two on goal. Carleton (Minn.) totaled 14 shots with seven on goal. Cate Patterson finished with five shots, three on goal.
Lily Brock earned the victory, finishing with six saves. Anna Roethler took the loss, recording 10 saves.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, October 2 hosting Carthage College (Wis.) at 4 p.m.
