Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team earned a 2-0 win at home against Carthage College (Wis.) Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles improve to 6-4-1 on the season while the Lady Reds drop to 3-4-2.
UWL struck first when
Kaitlyn Villars capitalized from a corner kick and found the back of the net at 24:40. It is Villars' sixth goal this season. The Eagles would lead 1-0 for the remainder of the first half. UWL ended the first half with five shots while Carthage (Wis.) totaled two.
Quinn Shannon recorded three saves Wednesday.
Camryn Hart scored her first career goal when she made it past the keeper at 64:06. The goal was assisted by
Sophie Amundson, her third assist of the season. The Eagles finished with eight shots in the second half while holding the Lady Reds to six.
UWL totaled 13 shots overall with eight on goal while Carthage (Wis.) finished with eight shots, including three on goal.
Quinn Shannon earned the shutout victory for UWL, finishing with three saves. It is Shannon's third shutout of the season. Sara Lieffrig suffered the loss for Carthage (Wis.), totaling six saves.
Villars finished with two shots (both on goal) while Hart had three shots (all on goal).
Natalie Schisel and
Sydney Halstead each finished with one shot on goal. Morgan Verbeten and Jacey Kent had two shots for Carthage (Wis.), each finishing with one on goal.
UWL returns to action Saturday, October 5 as it opens Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play hosting UW-Oshkosh at 2 p.m.
