UWL Falls in Double Overtime

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team fell 2-1 in double overtime to Coe College (Iowa) Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles fell to 4-4-1 on the season while the Kohawks improve to 5-3-1.  It was UWL's third double overtime home game this season, going 1-1-1.

UWL found the back of the net late in the first half when Julia Smith scored unassisted at 41:14.  It was Smith's first collegiate goal. The Eagles kept the lead at the end of the first half. UWL finished with eight shots in the first half while holding Coe (Iowa) to two.

Hayley Hargroder had four shots, including two on goal.


The Kohawks answered back late in the second half at 88:43 when Sydney Schroder scored off of Mya Washburn's assist. It was Schroder's fourth goal of the season and Washburn's first assist. UWL once again held the advantage in shots in the second half, 6-3. 

Coe (Iowa) had two shots and UWL had one in the first overtime with the game remaining tied, 1-1. The Kohawks scored the winning goal at 107:04 on Jerica Bowler's first goal of the season. Coe (Iowa) had two shots in the second overtime while UWL finished with one. 

UWL totaled 16 shots overall, including 11 on goal. Hayley Hargroder had four shots with two on goal. Sophie Amundson and Sydney Halstead each had two shots on goal. Coe (Iowa) finished with nine shots with six on goal. Amanda Hiebert had four shots with three on goal while Schroder had four shots, including two on goal. 

Quinn Shannon suffered the loss for UWL, finishing with four saves. Alex Montalbano earned the victory for Coe (Iowa), recording 10 saves. 

UWL returns to action Wednesday, September 25 at Carleton College (Minn.) at 4:30 p.m.
