La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team opened its 2019 home season with a 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20) win over Elmhurst College (Ill.) Friday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 5-6 on the season while the Bluejays drop to 4-8.
Emma Lawrence led UWL with 12 kills while Brianne Korducki finished with nine. Laine Hoeffel and Anna Rossner each had seven kills. Korducki hit .368 (9-2-19) for the match while Rossner finished at .353 (7-1-17).
Laine Hoeffel had seven kills in the match.
Abbey Fox recorded 19 assists as the Eagles hit .229 (48-18-131).
Sophie Quelle and Courtney Conway each had 10 digs for UWL. The Eagles totaled 6.0 team blocks with Rossner recording one block solo and three block assists.
Bailey Brouwer led Elmhurst (Ill.) with 17 kills while Ellie Burzlaff finished with 12. Brouwer hit .243 (17-8-37) and Burzlaff .273 (12-3-333). Emily Finkbeiner recorded 18 assists and Hannah Horn 15 as the Bluejays hit .189 (47-20-143).
Valerie Thomas had a match-high 17 digs. Elmhurst (Ill.) had 3.0 team blocks.
UWL returns to action Saturday, September 21 hosting St. Norbert College (Wis.) at 11 a.m. and Wisconsin Lutheran College at 1 p.m.
