UWL and Wartburg Finish in Double Overtime Tie

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team finished in a 0-0 double overtime tie with 22nd-ranked Wartburg College (Iowa) Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles are now 4-3-1 on the season while the Knights are 6-0-1. Wartburg (Iowa) is ranked 22nd on this week's United Soccer Coaches Poll. 

Wartburg (Iowa) totaled 20 shots in Wednesday's game, including nine on goal. Emily Fontana recorded five shots with three on goal. The Knights had six shots in the overtime, but failed to score in their first overtime game of the season. 

UWL finished with 14 shots in the game with five on goal. Julia Smith led the Eagles with three shots, including two on goal. Ainsley Allan, Sophie Amundson and Kaitlyn Villars each had one shot on goal. After finishing with three shots in the first half, UWL totaled eight in the second half, one in the first overtime and two in the second overtime. 

Marissa Lopez had five saves for Wartburg (Iowa) while Quinn Shannon recorded nine for UWL. 

The Knights held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. UWL totaled 15 fouls in the game with Wartburg (Iowa) recording 14. 

UWL returns to action Saturday, September 21 hosting Coe College (Iowa) at 3 p.m. on Parents' Day.
