UWL Never Trails in Home Win over UW-River Falls

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 70-51 win over UW-River Falls Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles, ranked 25th on D3hoops.com, improve to 19-3 overall and 8-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Falcons drop to 7-15 overall and 1-10 in the conference. 

UWL earns a regular-season sweep of UW-River Falls after earning a 61-42 victory on January 23 in Page Arena.

UWL never trailed in the game, scoring the first 14 points as UW-River Falls missed its first 13 shots from the field. Emma Gamoke scored seven of the Eagles' first 14 points. The Falcons got on the board with 4:01 left in the first quarter on a Brianna Koop layup. UWL led, 21-11, after the first quarter.  

The Falcons cut the lead to 21-13 on a Jenna Zeman layup, but the Eagles used a 13-4 run to take a 34-17 lead with 4:44 remaining in the second quarter on a Ava Kramer layup. UWL led, 38-26, at halftime.

UW-River Falls cut the lead to 44-34 with 2:32 left in the third quarter, but the Falcons would get no closer the rest of the game. UWL led, 50-36, after three quarters and UW-River Falls could get no closer than 11 points in the fourth quarter.

UWL shot 43.5% from the field, including 33.3% (six-of-18) from three-point range, and 83.3% (10-of-12) at the free throw line. Dani Craig led the Eagles with 15 points while Gamoke finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Lexie Higgins had a game-high nine rebounds. Eleven different players scored for UWL. 

UW-River Falls shot 30.2% from the field, including 14.3% (three-of-21) from three-point range, and 62.5% (10-of-16) at the line. Zeman led three Falcons in double figures with 14 points. Koop finished with 12 points and five rebounds while Taylor Paulsrud had 10 points. 

UWL returns to action Saturday, February 9 at UW-Eau Claire at 3 p.m.
