Women's Basketball Uses Late Run to Defeat UW-Stout

La Crosse, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team used a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter to help secure a 68-51 win over the University of Wisconsin-Stout Saturday afternoon at Mitchell Hall.
 
With the win, the Eagles finish the regular season at 21-4 overall and 10-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). UW-Stout finishes the regular season at 17-8 overall and 7-7 in the WIAC.

UWL earned its 21st win of the season for the first time since finishing 22-7 in 1987-88. The Eagles' 10 league wins are the most since finishing 12-4 in 2010-11.
 
After the Blue Devils cut their deficit to 48-45 on a three-pointer by Bailey Diersen (8:04), the Eagles went on a 13-0 run to pull away (61-45, 3:37). Delaney Schoenenberger sparked the run with eight points including two three-pointers for the Eagles. After a UW-Stout free throw by Shannan Watkins, UWL scored four straight to take its largest lead of the game at 65-46 with 2:33 remaining. The Blue Devils would not get any closer than 15 points (66-51) the rest of the game.

With the score tied at halftime (29-29), UWL scored 11 of the first 13 points to take a 40-31 lead with 3:48 left in the third quarter. Diersen hit a three-pointer and a layup to pull the Blue Devils within four (40-36, 3:02) but that would be as close as they would get in the third quarter.
 
The Blue Devils outscored the Eagles 10-2 to start the game however, the Eagles would score 14 of the next 20 points to tie the game at 16 apiece with 1:14 left in the first quarter. After two free throws by Watson for UW-Stout, UWL scored the final five points to lead 21-18 at the end of the first quarter.
 
UWL would push their lead to 25-20 with 6:51 left in the second quarter but the Blue Devils would score nine of the next 11 points to regain the lead at 29-27 with 1:27 left in the quarter. Kyah Steiner would hit a jumper with 1:06 left in the half to tie the game up at 29.
 
For the game, UWL shot 26-of-57 (45.6%) from the floor including four-of-17 (23.5%) from three-point range and 12-of-17 (70.6%)from the free throw line. Schoenenberger led the Eagles with 23 points as she finished just two points away from a career high. Joining her in double figures was Dani Craig with 16 points and Ava Kramer with ten points. Steiner came off the bench for eight points and eight rebounds while Lexie Higgins finished with a game high 11 rebounds.
 
UW-Stout finished the game shooting 17-of-55 (30.9%) from the floor including five-of-20 (25.0%)from the three-point line and 12-of-18 (66.7%) from the charity stripe. UW-Stout finished with three players in double figures including Kyncaide Diedrich with 16 points, Diersen with 13 points and Amber Fabeck with ten points.
 
Both the Eagles and the Blue Devils will open up the WIAC tournament on Wednesday night at 7 pm. UWL is the three seed and faces the six seed, UW-Stevens Point, while UW-Stout is the four seed and will play the five seed, UW-Platteville.
