UWL Drops WIAC Title Game; Awaits NCAA Bid

Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team fell 4-1 at UW-Whitewater Saturday night in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship game (presented by Culver's) at Fiskum Field. The Eagles drop to 12-7-3 on the season while the Warhawks improve to 14-5-3. With the win, UW-Whitewater earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships. 

UWL will await word on Monday, November 11 at noon if it has earned an at-large bid to the national championships.

Playing for the fifth straight season against UWL in the WIAC Championships, including third straight title game, UW-Whitewater took a 1-0 lead at 3:19 on Elli Wahlberg's seventh goal of the season, assisted by Olivia May. 

UW-Whitewater defeated UWL, 3-0, in the 2016 championship game while the Eagles earned a 4-3 shootout victory over the Warhawks in the 2017 title contest. The game had ended in a 1-1 double overtime tie.  UW-Whitewater defeated UWL, 1-0, in the 2015 semifinals while the Eagles earned a 2-0 victory in the 2018 semifinals.  

UWL tied the game at 1-1 at 22:01 on Hayley Hargroder's fourth goal of the year. Sophie Amundson recorded the assist. The Warhawks regained the lead at 31:29 with Anna Boyd scoring her seventh goal of the season. Anna Brodjian had the assist as UW-Whitewater took a 2-1 lead. 

The Warhawks led, 2-1, at halftime. 

Brodjian gave UW-Whitewater a 3-1 advantage at 59:50 off a Boyd assist. Brodjian recorded her 12th goal of the year. Boyd then finished the scoring with an unassisted goal at 82:48.

UWL finished with 11 shots, including seven on goal. Kaitlyn Villars had four shots, including two on goal, while Sydney Halstead finished with two shots, both coming on goal. Maddy Fennessy finished with two shots, one on goal. 

UW-Whitewater totaled 13 shots with seven on goal. Boyd, Brodjian and May each had three shots, combining for six shots on goal. 

Quinn Shannon recorded three saves for UWL while Sara Klimisch had six for UW-Whitewater.
