La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team, ranked 19th on the D3hoops.com Top-25 Preseason Poll, opened its 2019-20 home schedule with a 71-39 victory over Cornell College (Iowa) Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 4-1 on the season while the Rams drop to 2-2. It is UWL's first-ever win over Cornell (Iowa), who now leads the all-time series, 2-1.

Cornell (Iowa) took a 6-3 lead on a pair of Rose Shimaoka three-pointers, but UWL used a 17-1 run to lead 20-7 with 2:31 left in the first quarter on
Jessa Peterson's three-point field goal. The Eagles led, 20-9, after the first quarter. The Rams cut it to 20-11 with 9:44 remaining on the second quarter, but could get no closer the rest of the game. UWL led, 30-17, at halftime.
The Eagles opened the second half on a 13-4 run to lead 43-21. UWL led, 51-26, after three quarters.
UWL shot 46.7% from the field, including 35.5% (11-of-31) from three-point range, and 36.4% (four-of-11) at the free throw line. The Eagles shot 58.6% (17-of-29) from the field in the second half.
Lexie Higgins had a game-high 10 rebounds.
Emma Gamoke led UWL with 22 points, finishing five-of-13 from three-point range. She added five rebounds and team-high three steals.
Delaney Schoenenberger finished with nine points while
Dani Craig had eight. Ten different players scored for the Eagles.

Cornell (Iowa) shot 30.6% from the field, including 16.7% (three-of-18) from three-point range, and 66.7% (14-of-21) at the line. Madison Wauters led the Rams with 11 points. Shimaoka had nine points. Tara Hansel led Cornell (Iowa) with five rebounds.
UWL returns to action Tuesday, November 26 hosting Luther College (Iowa) at 5 p.m.
