La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team fell 1-0 to UW-Stevens Point in the regular-season finale for both teams Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles drop to to 11-6-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pointers improve to 11-4-2 overall and 5-2 in the conference.
UWL is the fourth-seed for the WIAC Championships (presented by Culver's) and will host fifth-seed UW-Oshkosh on Tuesday, November 5 at 6 p.m. UW-Stevens Point is the tournament's second seed and will host a semifinal game on Thursday, November 7.
Kaitlyn Villars had three shots in Saturday's game.
The teams were scoreless at halftime on Saturday as UWL recorded five shots in the first half and UW-Stevens Point four.
UW-Stevens Point scored the game's only goal at 85:05 with Maddy Hardyman getting her third of the season. Meaghan Ambelang recorded the assist. The Pointers had seven shots in the second half while the Eagles totaled four.
UWL had nine shots overall with two on goal.
Kaitlyn Villars finished with three shots (one on goal) while
Elle Leider had two shots (one on goal). UW-Stevens Point finished with 11 shots, including five on goal. Hardyman had three shots (two on goal).
UW-Stevens Point had 13 foulds in the game while UWL finished with four.
Quinn Shannon took the loss for UWL, finishing with four saves. Lexi Pawlowski earned the win for UW-Stevens Point, recording two saves.
