La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over UW-Oshkosh Tuesday night in the first round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships (presented by Culver's) at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles improve to 12-6-2 on the season while the Titans drop to 8-10-1.
With the win, UWL travels to UW-Stevens Point on Thursday, November 7 for the WIAC Championship Semifinals.
The game was scoreless at halftime Tuesday night as UWL recorded six shots and UW-Oshkosh five.
Quinn Shannon had five saves Tuesday night.
UWL scored the only goal of the game at 54:30 with
Maddy Fennessy getting her third goal of the season. UW-Oshkosh had three shots in the final 6:32 of the game with UWL's
Quinn Shannon recording a pair of saves. The Titans' Tory Schumann had her shot at 89:04 saved by Shannon.
UWL finished with 12 shots overall, including six on goal. Fennessy and
Kaitlyn Villars each had three shots with two on goal.
UW-Oshkosh totaled 12 shots with five on goal. Delaney Karl had three shots with one on goal.
Shannon finished with five saves to earn the victory for UWL while Madelyn Runyan took the loss for UW-Oshkosh, also finishing with five saves.
The Eagles improve to 16-22-2 all-time in the WIAC Championships while UW-Oshkosh falls to 14-23-2. UWL has won three tournament titles (1996, 2017, 2018). UWL now leads UW-Oshkosh, 5-1, in the WIAC Tournament.
