Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team, ranked 19th on the D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, improved to 2-0 with a 61-46 victory at Coe College (Iowa) Tuesday night. The Kohawks drop to 1-1.
UWL and Coe (Iowa) started the first quarter back and forth when Coe (Iowa) went on a 8-4 run to take a 14-8 lead. Dani Craig's two free throws with :08 left in the first quarter cut the Kohawk's lead to 14-10 after the opening quarter.Â
Coe (Iowa) took its largest lead at 28-21 at halftime on Jackie Feldt's layup with :48 left.
UWL opened the second half with a 12-4 run to lead 33-32 on Delaney Schoenenberger's three-pointer with 6:28 left in the third quarter. The game was tied, 38-38, after three quarters.Â
The Eagles scored the first seven points in the fourth quarter to take 45-38 lead and the Kohawks could get no closer the rest of the game. Coe (Iowa) cut the deficit to 49-44 with 4:36 remaining on Jackie Feldt's three-point play. UWL responded with a 10-0 run to lead 59-44 with 1:27 left.Â
UWL shot 44.9% from the field, including 35.7% (five-of-14) from three-point range, and 57.1% (12-of-21) at the free throw line. Kyah Steiner led UWL with 14 points while Craig finished with 11. Steiner had six rebounds and Craig finished with a team-high seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Emma Gamoke and Alana Gilles each finished with eight points.Â
Coe (Iowa) shot 37.2% from the field, including 6.3%% (one-of-16) from three-point range, and 68.8% (11-of-16) at the line. Feldt and Lexi Doyle led the Kohawks with 10 points each. Doyle finished with a game-high 14 rebounds..
UWL returns to action Friday, November 15 against Wartburg College (Iowa) at 6 p.m. in the UW-Eau Claire Classic.
