UWL Extends Winning Streak to Four with Shutout Victory

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team extended its winning streak to four straight with a 2-0 non-conference victory over Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.  The Eagles improve to 8-4-1 on the season while the Gusties drop to 2-9.  UWL now leads the all-time series, 7-2-2, with Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.). 

UWL recorded its third straight shutout Wednesday and fifth of the season.  The Eagles held the Gusties to three shots, including none on goal.

Sophie Amundson scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season.


UWL took a 1-0 lead at 37:05 off Maddy Fennessy's corner kick.  It was her first career goal.  The Eagles totaled 13 shots in the first half while the Gusties managed two. 

The lead remained 1-0 until Sophie Amundson made it 2-0 at 89:52, assisted by McKenna Falbo.  It was Amundson's team-leading eighth goal of the season.  

The Eagles finished with 19 shots in the match, including eight on goal.  Eleven different players recorded a shot for UWL on Wednesday night with eight registering a shot on goal.  Katie Feller and Kaitlyn Villars each finished with three shots while Amundson, Sydney Halstead, Julia Smith and Elle Leider each had two. 

Erin Teichroew, Kenna West and Paige Cocchiarella each had one shot for Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.). 

Quinn Shannon (6-3-1) earned the win for UWL, recording her fifth shutout of the year. Ashley Becker (2-9) took the loss for Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.), finishing with six saves.

UWL returns to action Saturday, October 12 at UW-Whitewater at 6 p.m.
