Eau Claire, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse gymnastics team opened its 2018-19 season with a dual victory at UW-Eau Claire Friday night in the McPHee Center. The Eagles finished with a team score of 184.100 while the Blugolds totaled 181.00.Â

UWL recorded a 46.225 on the vault, 44.875 on the uneven parallel bars, 47.150 on the balance beam and 45.875 on the floor exercise. UW-Eau Claire finished with a 46.725 on the vault, 44.825 on the uneven parallel bars, 43.675 on the balance beam and 45.875 on the floor exercise.Â

The Eagles won three individual event titles Friday with
Megan Hawkins taking the vault (9.550),
Dani Barmore the uneven parallel bars (9.600) and
Jessica Ahrens the balance beam (9.500).Â
Sam Weyer was second on the vault (9.450) Friday while
Kacey Mortenson placed fourth (9.400). Mortenson finished fourth on the uneven parallel bars (9.150) with
Savannah Farrell tied for fifth (9.025).
UWL took the top-five places in the balance beam. Along with Ahrens taking the title,
Ally Brugler was second (9.450),
Emiko Wilks and
Emma Grant tied for third (9.425) and
Ally Blixt finished fifth (9.350).
Barmore, Mortenson and Faith Serland tied for second (9.350) on the floor exercise.Â

"I was proud of the how the team finished tonight," said UWL head coach
Kasey Crawford. "It was not an easy start to the night with some adversity during warm-ups." The Eagles' roster features two seniors, five juniors, six sophomores and seven freshmen.
"After the first two rotations, the team rallied together and hit some great floor and beam sets," added Crawford. "I'm especially proud of how our seniors,
Dani Barmore and
Emiko Wilks, stepped up and lead their team to a strong finish."
UWL returns to action Friday, January 18 hosting Hamline University (Minn.) at 6:30 p.m. in the Eagles' home opener in Mitchell Hall.
