Handrick Scores Both Goals in Win at Carthage

Kenosha, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team earned a 2-1 win at Carthage College (Wis.) Saturday afternoon at Art Keller Field. The Eagles improve to 3-2-1 on the season while the Lady Reds drop to 3-2-1.  UWL improves to 3-0 on the road this season.

The teams were scoreless at halftime as UWL recorded five shots and Carthage (Wis.) four. 

Carthage (Wis.) took a 1-0 lead at 47:31 with Anna McHatton scoring assisted by Joanne Stanfa.  The Lady Reds maintained their lead until the 63:52 mark as the Eagles' Cassie Handrick tied the game with an assist from Sophie Amundson.  Handrick scored the eventual game-winning goal at 74:06 assisted by Kaitlyn Villars. Handrick now has a team-leading three goals on the season. 

UWL finished with 12 shots in the game, including eight on goal. Villars had three shots in the game, all coming on goal, while Handrick also recorded three shots with two on goal. Natalie Herzog and Maya Schmitt each had two goals with Herzog recording both on goal. 

Carthage (Wis.) totaled seven shots, including four on goal. Stanfa had two shots, both on goal. The Lady Reds were held without a shot in the final 37:43 in the second half.

Lily Brock earned the win for UWL, finishing with three saves. She is now 2-1-1 on the season. Sara Lieffrig had six saves for Carthage (Wis.).

UWL returns to action Wednesday, September 19 hosting Wheaton College (Ill.) at 4 p.m.
