Soccer Team Earns Road Win at Wartburg

Waverly, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team improved to 2-2-1 on the season with a 2-1 victory at Wartburg College (Iowa) Wednesday night. The Knights drop to 3-2 on the year. UWL entered the game ranked 10th while Wartburg (Iowa) was fourth in the United Soccer Coaches North Region.

UWL took a 1-0 lead at 8:01 with an unassisted goal from Margaret Harings. It was Harings' second goal of the season. The Eagles maintained their 1-0 lead at halftime after recording eight shots. The Knights were held to five shots in the first half.

Hannah Beech gave UWL a 2-0 advantage with an unassisted goal at 46:42, her first goal of the season. Wartburg (Iowa) cut the lead to 2-1 at 61:44 on Nicole Adair's penalty kick. The Knights recorded the final six shots of the game.

UWL totaled 15 shots for the game, including five in the second half. The Eagles had eight shots on goal. Wartburg (Iowa) finished with 15 shots, including 10 in the second half. The Knights had seven shots on goal.

Meghan Cannestra (1-0) earned her first win of the season for UWL, finishing with six saves. Emma Strong (2-2) took the loss for Wartburg (Iowa), finishing wiht four saves in 50:17. Marissa Lopez had two saves in 39:43.

UWL returns to action Saturday, September 15 at Carthage College (Wis.) at 1 p.m.
