Tucson, Ariz. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team earned its first win of the season Monday with a 11-3 victory in six innings over Macalester College (Minn.). The Eagles dropped their first game Monday with a 6-5 loss in eight innings to Case Western Reserve University (Ohio). UWL is now 1-5 on the season.

Grace Mindrup's double scored
Sydney Murphy for the game's first run and after a pair of walks,
Mia Schmidtke's RBI single knocked in Mindrup for a 2-0 lead.
Morgann Harbort followed with a three-run double scoring
Sarah Stewart,
Sarah Mueller and Schmidtke.
Kerrigan Koch's single scored Harbort for a 6-0 lead while
Katie Block later scored on a wild pitch and Koch came in on Murphy's sacrifice fly.Â
The Eagles added a run in the top of the second on Harbort's single to score Stewart and a 9-0 lead. Macalester (Minn.) got three unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth, including RBI singles from Sophie Migacz and Kennedy Kechely.Â
UWL tallied two runs in the sixth with
Brittany Baldwin scoring on Murphy's single and
Maddy Kromke coming in after Mueller reached on a Macalester (Minn.) infield error.Â
UWL finished with 11 hits in the game, including two each from Baldwin, Murphy, Schmidtke and Harbort.
Katie Klein earned the win for the Eagles, pitching 2.1 innings in relief. She allowed three hits while striking out four.
Maddie Muelken started for UWL, going 3.2 innings, allowing six hits and three runs (one earned) with two strikeouts.
Macalester (Minn.) totaled nine hits with Kechely, Molly Hurley and Kate Lawhead with two each. Morghan Bean suffered the loss for the Scots, pitching 0.1 of an inning while allowing four runs, two hits and two walks.
UWL opened Monday with a 6-5 loss in eight innings to Case Western Reserve (Ohio). The Spartans scored three runs in the bottom of the first and added a run in the second to lead 4-0. The Eagles cut the lead to 4-2 in the top of the sixth as pinch-runner
Maddie Yont scored on Murphy's double. Baldwin later scored on Mindrup's single to make it 4-2.
UWL tied the game in the top of the seventh inning with Baldwin scoring on a Murphy single to cut it to 4-3 and Koch coming in on a Case Western Reserve (Ohio) error.
The game went into extra innings with the teams using the international tie-breaker rule in placing a runner on second base to start the inning.
Kathryn Vander Schaaf was placed on second in the top of the eighth for UWL. She advanced to third on Mindrup's sacrifice bunt and scored on
Sarah Mueller's double to give the Eagles a 5-4 lead. The Spartans' Grace Tritchler was placed on second to start the bottom of the inning. She went to third on Maren Waldner's sacrifice bunt and scored the tying run on Nicole Carty's single. After a pop-out and walk, Sarah Miller's run-scoring single knocked in Carty with the winning run.
Caitlyn Hughes (0-3) suffered the loss for UWL, pitching a complete-game. She went 7.2 innings, allowing seven hits, six runs (two earned) and one walk while striking out five. The Eagles finished with nine hits with Murphy going 3-for-3 with two RBI and Baldwin 2-for-4 with two runs.
Katie Dzierwa (1-0) earned the win for Case Western Reserve (Ohio), going 2.0 innings of relief. She allowed four hits, three runs (one earned) aond one walk. The Spartans had seven hits with Miller finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI.
UWL returns to action Tuesday, March 13 with a pair of games. The Eagles face Dickinson College (Pa.) at 11 a.m. (Central) and Cornell College (Iowa) at 3:30 p.m. (Central).
