St. Louis, Mo. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team fell 3-0 at top-ranked Washington University-St. Louis (Mo.) Friday night in the third round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships. The Eagles, making their third appearance in the national championships, finish their season at 18-3-3 while the Bears improve to 20-0. WashU will play in Saturday's quarterfinals versus the winner of Centre College (Ky.) and Wheaton College (Ill.). The Bears are making their 18th appearance in the NCAA III Championships.

WashU took a 1-0 lead at 22:32 as Taylor Cohen scored her 15th goal of the season, assisted by Maggie Crist. The Bears led 1-0 at halftime, recording all 12 shots of the game in the first half.
Jessica Ridderhoff made it 2-0 at 68:22, assisted by Cohen. It was Ridderhoff's second goal of the year. Crist recorded her sixth goal of the season at 74:44 for a 3-0 lead with Ridderhoff getting the assist.Â
UWL, ranked 23rd on this week's United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll, finished with four shots, including one on goal from
Margaret Harings.

Maya Schmitt and
Cassie Handrick each recorded one shot. WashU, ranked first in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll, had 17 shots with seven on goal. Cohen finished with five shots (one on goal) while Crist had four shots (two on goal).
Lily Brock (15-2-3) had three saves for UWL. The Eagles also had one team save. Emma Greenfield (20-0) earned the shutout win for WashU, finishing with one save. The Bears recorded all four corner kicks in the game.

UWL advanced to the 2017 NCAA III Quarterfinals after a 2-1 victory over WashU in the third round. The Eagles went 64-17-8 (.764 winning percentage) overall and 23-3-2 (.857) in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) the last four seasons. UWL has made three NCAA III Championship appearances in the last four years while winning three WIAC regular-season and two tournament titles.
UWL set a single-season school record with 72 goals this year, breaking the record of 65 set in 2017. The Eagles' 11 shutouts this year is second in single-season school history after finishing with a school record 14 a year ago.
