Volleyball Team Extends Winning Streak to Six

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team extended its winning streak to six straight with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-23) victory over UW-Stout Saturday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles, receiving votes on this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 Poll, improve to 12-4 overall and 3-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Blue Devils fall to 5-12 overall and 1-2 in the conference. 

With the 3-0 victory, UWL has won its last 14 sets played. Ten of the Eagles' 12 victories this season have come by a 3-0 score.

UWL never trailed in the opening set Saturday, scoring the first six points.  The Eagles led 10-3 when the Blue Devils used a 7-3 run to cut the deficit to 13-10. UWL responded scoring seven of the next nine points for a 20-12 advantage and UW-Stout could get no closer than five points the rest of the set. 

The Blue Devils led 6-2 to open the second set before the Eagles came back to cut the lead to 12-11 on a Marissa Johnson kill.  UWL tied the set at 16-16 on a Kathryn Maas kill before UW-Stout scored the next two points for an 18-16 advantage.  The set was tied 21-21 when UWL's Hoeffel and Johnson recorded back-to-back kills for a two-point lead. A pair of attack errors by UW-Stout finished the scoring to give UWL the 25-22 victory.

The Eagles never trailed in the third set racing out to an 11-2 lead.  UWL led 24-16 after a Maas' kil, but UW-Stout scored seven straight points to cut the lead to 24-23. Stephanie Henk's kill gave UWL the 25-23 win. 

Maas and Henk led UWL with 10 kills each while Hoeffel and Jessica Jablonski each finish with nine. Maas hit .500 for the match with 10 kills and one error in 18 attempts while Jablonski also hit .500 with nine kills and one error in 16 attempts. Johnson totaled eight kills. Madison Entinger recorded 39 assists as the Eagles hit .214 (47-20-126) for the match. UWL hit .333 (14-4-30) in the opening set. 

Halle Barnabo led UWL with 18 digs. The Eagles had 6.0 team blocks. 

Ashley Pratt led UW-Stout with seven kills while Jessica DuVal recorded 26 assists. The Blue Devils hit .124 (30-17-105) for the match.  Steph Cannon finished with 13 digs. 

UWL returns to action Friday, October 6 at the Wartburg College (Iowa) Invitational.
