Box Score Naperville, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team improved to 8-4 on the season with a 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-15, 25-21) win over Elmhurst College (Ill.) Friday night in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin/Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Crossover at North Central College (Ill.). Elmhurst (Ill.) drops to 4-8 on the season.
Both teams are receiving votes on this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 Poll.
UWL never trailed in the taking the opening set Friday, racing out to a 6-1 lead with a pair of kills each from
Stephanie Henk and
Jessica Jablonski. Elmhurst (Ill.) used a 8-3 run to force a 9-9 tie, but UWL responded scoring six straight points to take a 15-9 advantage.
The second set was tied 19-19 when Elmhurst (Ill.) finished it scoring six of the last nine points.
Trailing 7-4 in the third set, UWL went on a 10-0 run highlighted by four aces from
Lakken Meredith. The Bluejays could get no closer than six points the rest of the way.
The fourth set was tied 19-19 when the Eagles scored six of the last eight points to secure the 25-21 victory.
Henk led UWL with 20 kills while Jablonski and
Laine Hoeffel each finished with eight.
Madison Entinger recorded 34 assists as the Eagles hit .229 (54-18-157). UWL hit .386 (21-4-44) in the first set and .346 (10-1-26) in the third.
Halle Barnabo had a team-leading 25 digs with Henk finishing with 11. Meredith had five aces.
UWL returns to action Saturday, September 23 at the CCIW/WIAC Crossover facing North Central (Ill.) at 10 a.m. and Wheaton College (Ill.) at noon.
