UW-La Crosse Records Shutout Win over Wartburg

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team earned a 2-0 victory over Wartburg College (Iowa) Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.  The Eagles improve to 5-0-2 on the season while the Knights drop to 5-2. UWL, receiving votes on this week's United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll, recorded its fifth shutout victory of the season Wednesday. 

UWL is ranked fourth and Wartburg (Iowa) fifth in the United Soccer Coaches North Region. 

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead at 31:35 as Maddie Granos scored her third goal of the season with an assist to Mary Mansker. UWL led 1-0 at halftime, outshooting Wartburg (Iowa), 16-8.  Kaitlyn Villars, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Offensive Player of the Week, made it 2-0 at 46:49 with Granos recording an assist. 

UWL finished with 29 shots, including 11 on goal.  Alex Cording had 10 shots with four on goal while Margaret Harings recorded five shots.  Wartburg (Iowa) was held to 10 shots, including two on goal. The Knights were held to two shots in the second half. 

Lily Brock, making her first career start in goal for UWL, finished with two saves. Hayley Krogh recorded nine saves for Wartburg (Iowa). 

UWL returns to action Saturday, September 23 at Illinois Wesleyan University at 1 p.m.
