Box Score 2 La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team earned a 4-1 victory over Benedictine University (Ill.) in an elimination game Saturday afternoon at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III La Crosse, Wisconsin Regional at North Campus Field. UWL improves to 30-15 on the season, while Benedictine (Ill.) ends its season at 34-13.
With the win, UWL advanced to the regional championship game against UW-Oshkosh scheduled for Sunday, May 14 at noon. The Eagles would need to defeat the Titans twice on Sunday to earn the regional title. UW-Oshkosh advanced to the championship game with a 4-2 victory over UWL earlier Saturay.
UWL's
Sydney Murphy led-off the game against Benedictine (Ill.) with a double and advanced to third on a groundout.
Ashley Lindstrom reached on an infield single, driving in Murphy to make it 1-0. After a
Stephanie Cole single,
Sarah Mueller's RBI single to right field scored Lindstrom for a 2-0 advantage.
The Eagles added a run in the second inning on an RBI double from Murphy, driving in
Jenny Gallagher to make it 3-0. UWL took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Murphy singled to start the frame and was replaced by pinch-runner
Brooke Baldwin.
Brittany Baldwin advanced

Grace Mindrup delivered an RBI single through the left side to score

Benedictine (Ill.) put two runners on with two outs in the top of the sixth before
Katie Klein came in to relieve UWL starter
Jessie Carignan. Selena Kweder singled to drive in Shannon Fritsche to cut the lead to 4-1, but Holly Haberkorn was thrown out trying to advance to third on the play to end the inning.
Carignan (13-5) picked up the win for UWL, giving up a run on five hits with one strikeout over 5.2 innings. Klein earned her 10th save of the season, pitching 1.1 innings. She allowed one hit and one walk while striking out one. Murphy went 3-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and one run while Cole finished 2-for-3.
Haberkorn (23-6) took the loss for Benedictine (Ill.), giving up four runs on eight hits in 6.0 innings, striking out two. She also went 3-for-3 at the plate.
