La Crosse, Wis. - Benedictine University (Ill.) defeated St. Norbert College (Wis.) 4-0 in an elimination game at the NCAA III La Crosse, Wisconsin Regional held at North Campus Field. Benedictine (Ill.) improves to 34-12 and advances to play UW-La Crosse at 4 p.m. St. Norbert (Wis.) ends its season at 21-16.
Benedictine got two runs on four straight singles in the bottom of the first. The rally started with two outs with a Courtney Grasz single to right, followed by a Holly Haberkorn single up the middle. Selena Kweder followed with an RBI single, driving in Grasz, and Emily Moore's single to left center drove in Haberkorn to make it 2-0.
The Eagles added two runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth. Moore scored after a fielding error from St. Norbert (Wis.) on a single from Breanna Sobotka, allowing Moore to score from third. Moore had singled earlier in the inning. Sobotka stole second and then scored on a Kelli Holstine single to make it 4-0.
Haberkorn (23-5) earned the win for Benedictine (Ill.), pitching a complete game three-hitter. She struck out four and walked one. Grasz, Moore, and Sobotka had two hits each for the Eagles.
Sydney Pfotenhauer (11-11) took the loss for St. Norbert (Wis.), giving up four runs on nine hits over 6.0 innings.
