Winter Haven, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team dropped its second straight game with a 4-0 loss to Webster University (Mo.) Tuesday afternoon in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Eagles, ranked eighth on this week's D3baseball.com Top-25 Poll, drop to 3-3 on the season while the Gorlocks, receiving votes in the national poll, improve to 8-3.
Webster (Mo.) tallied two runs in the top of the second on Joe Swanson's sacrifice fly to score Matt Wollnik and Nate Tholl's run-scoring single to bring in Jake Milosch.
The Gorlocks added two runs in the seventh on Mike Wick's two-out two-run single.
UWL was held to seven hits with
Nate Roethle and
Alex Robson both going 2-for-4. The Eagles had the bases-loaded with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but failed to score. UWL left six runners on base.
Travis Stahulak (0-1) suffered the loss for the Eagles, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing two hits, two run and three walks while striking out nine.
John Lord (1-0) earned the victory for Webster (Mo.), going 6.1 innings, allowing four hits and one walk with seven strikeouts. Kyle Uhrich picked up his second save of the season, pitching 2.1 innings, allowing three hits while striking out three.
UWL returns to action Thursday, March 16 versus Ramapo College (N.J.) at 2:30 p.m. (Central).
