Tucson, Ariz. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team extended its winning streak to four with a pair of victories Monday at the Tucson Invitational. The Eagles earned a 12-0 win in five innings over MacMurray College (Ill.) and a 5-2 victory over Dickinson College (Pa.). UWL improves to 6-2 on the season.
Caitlyn Hughes (3-0) and
Ally Perdue combined on the shutout over MacMurray (Ill.). Hughes went 4.0 innings to pick up the win, allowing one hit while striking out four with Perdue going 1.0 inning, allowing two hits with two strikeouts.
UWL scored three runs in the bottom of the first and added nine in the second.
Sydney Murphy's two-run double scored
Brittany Baldwin and
Kerrigan Koch to make it 2-0 and Murphy later scored on
Ashley Lindstrom's RBI double for a 3-0 lead.
The Eagles sent 14 batters to the plate in scoring nine times in the bottom of the second inning Monday. Koch and
Lane Dickman each had RBI singles while
Kathryn Vander Schaaf had a two-run double and Baldwin a two-run single.
UWL finished with 11 hits as Baldwin finished 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Koch went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Lindstrom's RBI single to knock in Baldwin gave UWL a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first in its win over Dickinson (Pa.) Monday. The Eagles made it 3-0 in the third on
Stephanie Cole's RBI double bringing in Baldwin and Vander Schaaf's run-scoring single to bring in Cole.
Dickinson (Pa.) cut the lead to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, but UWL responded in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs to lead 5-2.
Jenny Gallagher scored on Koch's groundout and Murphy's bunt single scored Baldwin.
Jessie Carignan (2-0) earned the win for UWL, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned) with one strikeout.
Katie Klein picked up her second save of the year, going 3.0 innings, allowing one hit while striking out three.
UWL totaled 11 hits versus Dickinson (Pa.) with Lindstrom finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI. Baldwin and Gallagher each went 2-for-3 with Baldwin scoring twice and Gallagher once.
UWL returns to action Tuesday, March 14 facing Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J.) at 3:30 p.m. (Central) and Suffolk University (Mass.) at 5:30 p.m. (Central).
