Wisconsin Dells, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 76-38 to 15th-ranked University of St. Thomas (Minn.) Friday afternoon in the JustAgame Holiday Shootout at JustAgame Fieldhouse. The Eagles drop to 7-3 on the season as their six-game winning streak was snapped. The Tommies improve to 8-2 on the year.
St. Thomas (Minn.) never trailed in the game. The Tommies led 9-7 with 3:18 left in the first quarter after the Eagles'
Delaney Schoenenberger's three-point field goal. St. Thomas (Minn.) used a 10-1 run to finish the period to lead 19-8.
UWL cut the deficit to 28-17 with 5:04 left in the first half on a
Shayla Karge layup, but the Eagles could get no closer the rest of the game. St. Thomas (Minn.) ended the half scoring 12 of the last 14 points to lead 40-19.
The Tommies outscored the Eagles, 36-19, in the second half.
UWL shot 28.6% from the field, including 16.7% (three-of-18) from three-point range, and 53.8% (seven-of-13) at the free throw line. Karge led the Eagles with 10 points off the bench, going four-of-five from the field, including one-of-one from three-point range. She was one-of-two at the free throw line.
Kimmy Johnson finished with six points off the bench.
Sierra Watrud had a team-high five rebounds.
St. Thomas (Minn.) shot 55.6% from the field, including 50.0% (13-of-26) in the first half and 63.2% (12-of-19) in the second half. The Tommies shot 52.6% (10-of-19) from three-point range for the game and 84.2% (16-of-19) at the line. Lauren Fischer led three players in double figures with 17 points for St. Thomas (Minn.) while Hannah Spaulding finished with 14 points and Lucia Renikoff with 11. Spaulding had a team-high five rebounds.
UWL returns to action Saturday, December 30 versus Luther College (Iowa) at 11 a.m. at the JustAgame Holiday Shootout. The Eagles earned a 62-61 home win over the Norse on November 25 in the UWL Holiday Inn Express Thanksgiving Classic.
