La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team improved to 5-1 on the season with a 73-46 win over Northland College (Wis.) Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall. The Lumberjacks fall to 2-4 on the year. UWL won last season 62-45 on the road, and now leads the all-time series, 22-3.

UWL trailed early in the first half, as Northland (Wis.) started the game on a 13-5 run. The Eagles answered with a 9-1 run and tied the game at 14-14 on a
Jack Kortes layup with 12:12 remaining. UWL took its first lead at 24-22 with 5:39 left on another Kortes layup as a part of an 11-0 run that eventually put them up 29-22 at the 4:04 mark on a three-pointer from
Milton Cummings. The Eagles led 34-27 at halftime.
UWL never trailed in the second half. Cummings hit a three-point field goal with 15:52 remaining to give the Eagles their first double-digit lead at 42-31. An 11-0 run later in the half capped by another Kortes layup put UWL up 61-41 with 6:10 left.
UWL shot 40.3% from the field, including 19.2% (five-of-26) from three-point range, and 82.4% (14-of-17) at the free throw line.
Brendon Manning led the Eagles with 14 points and had a team-high four steals. Kortes added 13 points and Cummings finished with 10 points with five rebounds.
Nolan Wright had a team-high eight rebounds while adding two assists.
Northland (Wis.) shot 31.1% from the field, including 40.0% (six-of-15) from three-point range, and 66.7% (12-of-18) at the line. Benny Larry Jr. led the Lumberjacks with 12 points while Brandon Galland added 10. Matt Zorn led the team with seven rebounds.
UWL returns to action Saturday, December 9 at Buena Vista University (Iowa) at 7 p.m.
