UWL Falls at University of Chicago in NCAA III Quarterfinals

Chicago, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team fell 4-0 to the University of Chicago (Ill.) Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Sectional Final.  The Eagles, ranked 15th on the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll, finish its season 20-2-3.  Third-ranked Chicago (Ill.) improves to 21-2 and advances to the NCAA Semifinals in Greensboro, North Carolina December 1. 
 
Chicago (Ill.) took a 1-0 lead 12:03 into the game on a goal from Jenna McKinney, and led 2-0 after a Katie Jasminski goal at 27:06.  The Maroons extended the lead to 3-0 in the second half on a Kelsey Moore goal at 66:57, and capped the scoring at 81:27 on a Julia Lodoen goal. 
 
UWL totaled eight shots in the game, including four on goal.  Alex Cording had two shots, including one on goal.  Chicago (Ill.) finished with 28 shots, and 13 on goal.  Hanna Watkins and Mia Calamari led the Maroons with five shots. 
 
Lily Brock had nine saves in the loss for UWL.  Katie Donovan and Miranda Monroe each had a pair of saves for Chicago (Ill.).

The Eagles had three corner kicks, all in the first half.  The Maroons had 11 total corners, including nine in the second half. 

UWL and Chicago (Ill.) met Saturday for the first since the 2009 season. The Maroons now lead the all-time series, 10-1-1. Fourth-year UWL head coach Jason Murphy served as an assistant women's soccer coach at Chicago (Ill.) for two years.
 
UWL earned wins in the first and second round of the national championships at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles earned a 2-0 victory over The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) November 11 in the first round for their first NCAA Division III win in school history. UW-La Crosse advanced to the sectional with a 1-0 win over the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) November 12. 

UWL advanced to the national quarterfinals with a 2-1 victory over fifth-ranked Washington University (Mo.) November 17.

The Eagles earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships after winning the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship with a 4-3 shootout victory over UW-Whitewater November 4. It was the team's second tournament title in school history (1996). UWL earned its third regular-season WIAC title (1996, 2015, 2017) in school history with a 7-0 league mark, finishing undefeated in conference play for the first time in school history. Winners of a school record 12 straight games in 2017, UWL's 20 overall victories this year is also a single-season school record.
