UWL Extends Winning Streak to Five with Shutout Victory

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team improved to 10-1-2 on the season with a 4-0 victory over Concordia University Wisconsin Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. Concordia Wisconsin falls to 5-4-3 on the year. 

UWL, receiving votes on this week's United Soccer Coaches National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Poll, extended its winning streak to five with Sunday's victory while improving to 6-0-1 at home this season. The Eagles have allowed two goals in seven home games.  UWL is ranked third in the United Soccer Coaches North Region.

Alex Cording scored first for UWL at 13:31 with an assist from Megan Carroll for a 1-0 lead. It was her fifth goal of the year. Cassie Handrick made it 2-0 at 16:41 as she scored her fourth goal of the year with Natalie Herzog recording an assist.  Cording notched her second goal of the half and sixth of the season at 24:36 with Carroll recording her second assist.  UWL led 3-0 at halftime.

Hannah Anderson scored her first career collegiate goal at 51:48 to give the Eagles a 4-0 advantage as Mary Mansker recorded an assist. 

UWL finished with 29 shots, including 15 on goal. The Eagles had 13 shots in the first half and 16 in the second.  Cording recorded six shots with three on goal while Hayley Hargroder finished with four shots with three on goal. Herzog had four shots with two on goal. 

Concordia University Wisconsin totaled 15 shots with seven on goal.  The Falcons had six shots in the first half and nine in the second.  Anna Knueppel and Kayla Schlosser each had four shots with two on goal.  Allison McElwee had three shots, including two on goal. 

Kennedy Brault (three saves; 65:22) and Abbi Burke (four; 24:38) combined for the shutout win for UWL. Tabitha Ortiz (65:48) had eight saves for Concordia University Wisconsin while Kaeley Sterkel (24:12) had three. 

UWL returns to action Wednesday, October 11 hosting UW-Stout at 7 p.m.
