Soccer Team Completes Undefeated Conference Season

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team, ranked 16th on the United Soccer Coaches National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Top-25 Poll, completed its regular season with a 5-2 victory over UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles improve to 16-1-2 overall and 7-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). It marks the first time in school history UWL finished undefeated in conference play.  UW-Oshkosh falls to 7-7-4 on the season and 3-1-3 in the WIAC.

UWL extended its school winning streak to 11 with Saturday's victory and increased its overall school record win total to 16.

UW-Oshkosh took a 1-0 lead at :24 as Alexis Brewer scored her third goal of the year with Maddie Morris recording the assist. UWL quickly tied the game at 1-1 as Kaitlyn Villars scored an unassisted gol at 4:23. Villars gave the Eagles a 2-1 advantage at 11:52 with Margaret Harrings registering the assist. UWL led 2-1 at halftime.

Villars became the first UWL player since Kirsten Anderson in 2014 to score three goals in a game when she scored at 45:48 to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead. Harings also had the assist. Villars now has a team-high 12 goals this season.

Kendra Jepson cut the lead to 3-2 at 54:49 for UW-Oshkosh as she scored on a header off a Alek Kleis corner kick. It was Jepson's fourth goal of the season. 

Harings notched her ninth goal of the season at 59:52 with an assist from Villars to give UWL a 4-2 lead. Olivia Karegeannes finished the scoring for the Eagles at 73:16 assisted by Hayley Hargroder. It was Karegeannes' first goal of the season.

UWL finished with 37 shots in the game, including 21 on goal. The 37 overall and 21 shots on goal both set single-game highs for the Eagles. UWL tied its season-high with five goals. The team earned a 5-1 victory at UW-Platteville October 4.

The Eagles outshot the Titans, 19-3, in the first half. Villars and Harings each had six shots Saturday while Alex Cording finished with five.

UW-Oshkosh totaled 15 shots, including six on goal. Jepson and Addie Schmitz led the Titans with three shots each.

Lily Brock earned the win for UWL, recording four saves, while Jessica Galason suffered the loss for UW-Oshkosh, finishing with 16 saves.

UWL clinched the WIAC regular-season title with a 2-0 victory at UW-Whitewater October 21. The Eagles will be the top-seed for the WIAC Championship (Presented by Culver's) and host a semifinal match Thursday, November 2 at 6 p.m.
