UWL Earns Shutout Win over UW-Stout; Advances to WIAC Title Game

Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team, ranked 15th on this week's United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll, earned a 3-0 victory over UW-Stout Thursday night at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship Semifinal (Presented by Culver's). The Eagles improve to 17-1-2 on the season and advance to host UW-Whitewater in the WIAC Championship Game Saturday, November 4 at 5 p.m. UW-Stout ends its season at 9-6-5. 

UWL extended its school record winning streak to 12 with Thursday's victory. The Eagles' 17 victories this season is also a school record as well as their 12 shutouts. 

UWL took a 1-0 lead at 42:07 on Maddie Granos' 10th goal of the season. Rachel Rogahn recorded the assist. The Eagles led 1-0 at halftime after outshooting the Blue Devils, 15-1. 

Kaitlyn Villars gave UWL a 2-0 advantage at 55:07 on a header off Alex Cording's centering pass. It was Villars' team-leading 13th goal of the year. The Eagles finished the scoring at 60:50 with Margaret Harings scoring her 10th goal of the year on a header off Tori Barnhart's free kick. 

UWL finished with 24 shots in the game, including 11 on goal. Harings had five shots with three on goal while Cassie Handrick had four shots, including two on goal. 

UW-Stout totaled five shots, including one on goal. 

Lily Brock (77:27) and Kennedy Brault (12:33) combined on the shutout for UWL with Brock finishing with one save. Lynn Johnson had eight saves for UW-Stout. 

UWL, making its 24th all-time appearance in the WIAC Championships, will play in its fourth title game in school history Saturday. The Eagles captured the 1996 tournament title with a 4-1 victory over UW-Stevens Point. UWL advanced to the championship match on two other occasions in school history, losing 1-0 in overtime to UW-Stevens Point in 1999 and 3-0 to UW-Whitewater in 2016. 

UWL hosts UW-Whitewater Saturday, November 4 in the WIAC Championship (Presented by Culver's) at 5 p.m.
