Box Score Platteville, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team earned a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-21) victory at UW-Platteville Saturday afternoon in Williams Fieldhouse. The Eagles, receiving votes on this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 Poll, improve to 16-6 overall and 5-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). With the win, UWL remains tied for first-place with UW-Whitewater in the conference standings. UW-Platteville drops to 13-13 overall and 0-5 in the WIAC.
The Pioneers led 12-10 in the opening set when the Eagles scored five straight points, highlighted by four kills from
Marisa Johnson. UWL led 19-18 when it went on a 6-2 run to end the set.
Set two was tied, 12-12, when UWL used a 6-1 run to lead 18-13. UW-Platteville could get no closer than four points the rest of the set.
The Eagles led 8-4 in the third set after a
Stephanie Henk kill when the Pioneers went on a 8-2 run to lead 12-10. UW-Platteville led 13-11, but UWL scored 11 of the next 14 points to lead 22-16.
Johnson led UWL with 11 kills while Henk finished with 10 and
Kathryn Maas with seven.
Madison Entinger recorded 26 assists as the Eagles hit .198 (38-16-11).
Halle Barnabo had a team-leading 15 digs while Johnson finished with 11.
Paige Schmidt recorded nine digs.
UWL had 3.0 team blocks.
Allison Jensen and Katie Jones led UW-Platteville with seven kills while Merritt Johnson and Maddie Dower each had six. Allie Carter finished with 21 assists as the Pioneers hit .058 (32-25-121). Madie Sailors had a team-high 12 digs.
UW-Platteville had 2.0 team blocks.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, October 18 at Saint Mary's University (Minn.) at 7 p.m.
