UW-Whitewater 122, UW-La Crosse 121
La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team won nine events, including both relays, in a 122-121 dual loss to UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon in its final regular-season home meet of the season in Mitchell Hall's Richard L. Pein Natatorium.
UWL swept both relays Saturday as
Hunter Burchfield,
Jacob Burchfield,
Charleton Skinner and
Ryan Jessen won the 200 medley relay (1:36.15) while
Jacob Burchfield,
Hunter Burchfield,
Jackson Uselman and Jessen took the 200 freestyle relay (1:25.33).
The Eagles won seven individual events.
Tanner Folvag swept the one (287.55 points) and three-meter (278.25) diving titles.
Kyle Wolmutt was second in the one-meter (248.60) and third in the three-meter (219.85).
Jessen captured the 50 freestyle (21.52) Saturday while
Jacob Burchfield won the 100 freestyle (48.07) and
Hunter Burchfield the 100 backstroke (51.04).
Hunter Burchfield set a school record in the 100 backstroke, breaking the record of 51.41 set by
Stephen Hanko in 2014. He also broke the Mitchell Hall facility record of 51.39 set by Joe Clapp of UW-Stevens Point in 2013.
Skinner took the 100 butterfly (52.25) Saturday and
Nicholas Brehmer won the 200 freestyle (1:46.46). Brehmer was also third in the 500 freestyle (5:04.33).
Uselman, Tony Douglass and
Erik Wickstrom each had a pair of top-four individual finishes. Uselman was second in the 200 freestyle (1:47.25) and fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:13.48) while Dougass placed second in the 100 freestyle (48.63) and fourth in the 50 freestyle (22.14). Wickstrom finished fourth in the 200 I.M. (2:03.50) and 100 butterfly (54.49).
Ryan Neigbauer finished fourth in the 1,000 freestyle (10:59.13) and
Quinton Maydaniuk placed fouirth in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.20).
UWL returns to action Thursday, February 18 at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships at the Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wisconsin.
