Women's Basketball Falls to Sixth-Ranked Washington (Mo.)

Waverly, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 67-38 to sixth-ranked Washington University (Mo.) Thursday night in the Wartburg College (Iowa) AmericInn Holiday Tournament in Levick Arena.  The Eagles drop to 5-5 on the season while the Bears improve to 9-0.

UWL will play Hamline University (Minn.) Friday, December 30 at 1 p.m. in the tournament.  Hamline (Minn.) fell 85-41 to eighth-ranked Wartburg (Iowa) in Thursday's opening game.  Wartburg (Iowa) and Washington (Mo.) face each other in the tournament championship game Friday at 3 p.m.  Wartburg (Iowa) is ranked eighth on the D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll while Washington (Mo.) is sixth.

The Eagles took a 12-8 lead with 2:35 remaining in the first quarter Thursday on Elise DeNoyer's three-pointer.  The Bears used a 8-0 run to end the first quarter for a 16-12 advantage.  Washington (Mo.) opened the second quarter scoring eight of the first 10 points to lead 24-14 with 5:40 left.  A Kimmy Johnson jumper cut the lead to 24-16, but Washington (Mo.) scored the next seven points to lead 31-16 with 2:06 remaining after a Jenn Dynis jumper.  The Bears led 34-18 at halftime.

Washington (Mo.) went on a 8-1 run to start the second half to lead 42-19 with 5:21 remaining. UWL could get no closer than 21 points the rest of the game.

UWL shot 23.0% from the field Thursday, including 33.3 (seven-of-21) from three-point range, and 50.0% (three-of-six) at the free throw line. DeNoyer led the Eagles with nine points and six rebounds while Sierra Watrud and Rachel Atchison both finished with six points.  Alyssa Clemment added five points.

Washington (Mo.) shot 42.6% from the field, including 42.9% (six-of-14) from three-point range, and 100.0% (nine-of-nine) at the line.  Steph Botkin led the Bears with 12 points off the bench while Dynis finished with 11 points.

UWL returns to action Friday, December 30 versus Hamline (Minn.) at 1 p.m.
