Volleyball Team Falls at UW-Whitewater; Tied for First in WIAC

Box Score Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team, ranked 10th on this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 Poll, fell 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-18) at 14th-ranked UW-Whitewater Wednesday night.  The Eagles drop to 20-4 overall and 4-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Warhawks improve to 22-6 overall and 4-2 in the conference.  UWL and UW-Whitewater are tied for first in the WIAC with one match to play for both teams.

UWL wraps up its regular season Friday, October 28 hosting UW-Platteville at 7 p.m. while UW-Whitewater plays at UW-Eau Claire October 28 at 7 p.m.  UW-Oshkosh, UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stout are tied for third in the WIAC at 3-2 while UW-Stevens Point is sixth at 2-3.

UW-Whitewater raced out to a 12-4 lead in the opening set Wednesday before UWL scored consecutive points to cut the deficit to 12-6. The Warhawks then went on a 13-4 run to end the set. UWL hit -.029 (8-9-34) in the opening set while UW-Whitewater hit .400 (10-0-25).

UW-Whitewater took an early 9-3 lead in the second set before UWL responded with five straight points to make it 9-8. The Warhawks led 11-10 when they went on a 6-2 run to lead 17-12. The Eagles cut it to 22-19, but could get no closer.

The third set was tied 3-3 when UW-Whitewater used a 5-0 run to lead 8-3. Jessica Jablonski's kill cut it to 8-4 before the Warhawks scored five straight points for a 13-4 advantage. UWL later cut it 19-13 on an Ashley Entinger kill, but could get no closer than six points the rest of the set.

Stephanie Henk led UWL with 10 kills while Entinger recorded seven.  Madison Entinger finished with 24 assists as the Eagles hit a season-low .069 (29-22-101) for the match.  Marisa Johnson led the Eagles with eight digs while Paige Schmidt finished with seven. UWL had 1.0 team block.

Sydney Racky led UW-Whitewater with 13 kills while hitting .706 (13-1-17).  Staci Hasler had 27 assists as the Warhawks hit .412 (37-4-80).  Lauren Pfeifer had 10 digs. UW-Whitewater totaled 12.0 team blocks with Courtney Wagner recording three block solos and six block assists.

UWL wraps up its regular season Friday, October 28 hosting UW-Platteville at 7 p.m. on Senior Night.
