La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse gymnastics squad opened its 2015-16 home schedule with a 189.125 to 185.375 victory over Winona State University (Minn.) Friday night in Mitchell Hall.
The Eagles scored 47.200 on the vault; 47.475 on the uneven parallel bars; 46.525 on the balance beam and 47.925 on the floor exercise. The scores on bars and floor are season-highs for UWL, as was the team score of 189.125.
UWL won three of four events on Friday.
Leah Spankowski captured the vault with a career-high 9.650. She also scored a career-high on beam (9.400), finishing second.
On the floor exercise,
Savana Kettner won with a career-high 9.725, while on bars,
Lauren Wilson took the title with a season-high 9.625. Kettner also finished fifth on the beam (9.275).
Samantha Wiekamp was the all-around champion for the second consecutive meet, posting a career-high 37.950. She finished second on bars (9.550), fourth on vault (9.575) and floor (9.575), and tied for sixth on beam (9.250).
Dani Barmore finished second in the all-around (37.600), including a third place finish on beam (9.350), fourth on bars (9.450), and tie for sixth on vault (9.350).
Other top finishes for the Eagles included
Amy Enright, who finished second on floor (9.625), third on bars (9.475), and tied for sixth on beam (9.250).
Chelsie Richards was fifth on floor (9.550) while
Carly Kiesow tied for fifth on bars (9.375) and
Allison Jahns tied for sixth (9.350) on vault.
UW-L returns to action Friday, February 5 hosting the 35th Annual Gershon/McLellan Invitational at 6:30 p.m.
