Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team opened its 2015 season with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-19) victory over Luther College (Iowa) Tuesday night in Mitchell Hall. It was also the season-opener for the Norse. UWL snaps a three-match losing streak to Luther (Iowa) with its win Tuesday.
The Eagles hit .378 (39 kills, eight errors, 82 attempts) overall Tuesday, including .458 (12-1-24) in the third set.
Leah Putzier and
Jill Entinger led UWL with nine kills each while
Ashley Entinger and
Stephanie Henk each recorded seven.
Jill Entinger hit .471 (9-1-17) while Henk hit .429 (7-1-14).
Jaclyn Barrette led UWL with 31 assists while Putzier recorded a team-high eight digs.
Danica Johnson finished with seven digs.
Jill Entinger added four blocks.
"The entire team did a great job of competing tonight," said UWL head coach Lily Hallock. "I'm incredibly proud of the energy that we had from all 18 athletes and excited for the season to come. We made a lot of service errors and will work on that, but otherwise the team looked strong."The Norse hit .076 (28-22-79) for the match with Brandi Knupp leading Luther (Iowa) with seven kills. Emma Veum and Lexie Erickson each added six kills.
Lindsey Ryan recorded 23 assists for Luther (Iowa) while Anna Larson finished with seven digs.
UWL returns to action Friday, September 4 at the Saint Mary's University (Minn.) Sugarloaf Classic. The Eagles face Saint Mary's (Minn.) at 2 p.m. and St. Norbert College (Wis.) at 4 p.m.
