UW-La Crosse 154, Luther 83Decorah, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team earned a 154-83 dual victory at Luther College (Iowa) Saturday afternoon. The Eagles move to 2-0 on the season with the win.
The Eagles won seven individual swimming titles on Saturday, along with both relays. UWL also won titles in both diving events.
UWL's
Jacob Burchfield and
Ryan Jessen both earned two crowns in Saturday. Burchfield won the 200 freestyle (1:48.34) and 100 breaststroke (1:01.06) while Jessen took the titles in the 50 freestyle (21.69) and 100 free (47.76). The time in the breaststroke for Burchfield, as well as both times for Jessen, set Luther (Iowa) pool records.
Other UWL swimmers earning victories on Saturday included
Jacob MacKenzie winning the 1000 freestyle (10:47.94),
Jackson Uselman in the 500 freestyle (5:01.08), and
Hunter Burchfield in the 100 butterfly (53.53).
The Eagles won both relays on Saturday, setting Luther (Iowa) pool records in each. The team of
Daniel Streater,
Quinton Maydaniuk,
Hunter Burchfield, and Jessen set the mark in the 200 medley relay (1:35.93) while
Hunter Burchfield,
Nicholas Brehmer, Uselman, and Streater took the top spot in the 200 freestyle relay (1:28.69).
Tanner Folvag swept the diving titles for UWL. He captured the one meter crown with 281.85 points and the three meter title with 291.80 points.
Kyle Wolmutt was second (223.25/206.05) and
Elijah Heggerness third (181.20/193.55) in both events.
Other top finishers for the Eagles on Saturday included second place finishes from
Charleton Skinner in the 200 IM (2:01.18) and 100 butterfly (53.86) and Brehmer in the 100 free (50.05) and 200 free (1:48.32). Streater was second in the 100 backstroke (56.07), Uselman in the 50 free (21.69), and Maydaniuk swam second in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.47).
Mackenzie was third in the 500 freestyle (5:10.91) while the Eagles earned fifth place finishes from Maydaniuk in the 200 IM (2:10.14),
Ryan Neigbauer in the 100 backstroke (58.52), and
Jacob Kisiolek in the 1000 freestyle (11:35.97).
UWL returns to action on December 4 at the Rochester (Minn.) Invitational starting at 5 p.m.
