Volleyball Team Falls at Nationally-Ranked UW-Oshkosh

Leah Putzier led UWL with 11 kills and nine digs Wednesday night.
Box Score Oshkosh, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-20) at 19th-ranked UW-Oshkosh Wednesday night in Kolf Sports Center.  The Eagles drop to 12-7 overall and 2-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Titans improve to 16-5 overall and 3-0 in the conference.  UW-Oshkosh is ranked 19th on this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll.

The opening set was tied 5-5 when UW-Oshkosh used a 8-3 run to lead 13-8 after a Katelyn Malcheski kill.  UWL could get no closer than four points at 24-20.

The Eagles went on a 6-2 run in the second set to lead 8-4 on an Abby Scharbarth kill.  UWL led by many as six points, including 12-6, but UW-Oshkosh used a 8-2 run to force a 14-14 tie.  The set wa tied 16-16 when the Titans scored three straight points, including a pair of kills from Malcheski.  The Eagles cut the lead to 19-18, but the Titans scored six of the final eight points in the set to earn the win.

UW-Oshkosh raced out to a 5-2 lead in the third set before UWL tallied the next three points.  The Titans later led 15-12 and the Eagles could get no closer the rest of the way.

Leah Putzier led UWL with 11 kills Wednesday night while Stephanie Henk finished with nine and Jill Entinger with seven.  The Eagles hit .147 (34-20-95) as a team with Jaclyn Barrette recording 24 assists.

Putzier also led the team with nine digs while Barrette finished with seven.  Paige Schmidt and Hallie Lochner each had five.  UWL had 5.0 team blocks with Jessica Jablonski recording three block assists.

Malcheski led UW-Oshkosh with 15 kills while Nerissa Vogt and Tina Elstner each finished with eight.  The Titans hit .267 (41-14-101) with Lexi Thiel recording 35 assists.

Mandy Trautmann registered 11 digs with Malcheski and Rachel Smith each finishing with six.  UW-Oshkosh totaled 9.0 team blocks with Carly Lemke recording one block solo and four block assists.

UWL returns to action Friday, October 9 hosting 13th-ranked UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m.
