UW-La Crosse 118, UW-Oshkosh 63UW-Stevens Point 130, UW-La Crosse 113La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team split a pair of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) duals Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall's Richard L. Pein Natatorium. The Eagles earned a 118-63 victory over UW-Oshkosh while falling 130-113 to UW-Stevens Point. UW-L is now 3-2 overall in duals this season, including 2-1 in the WIAC.
In Saturday's action, UW-L's
Justin Bublitz swept the one-meter (368.90 points) and three-meter (361.15) diving versus both UW-Oshkosh and UW-Stevens Point. Bublitz set school and facility records with his winning point totals in both events. His 368.90 points on the one-meter broke the school record of 306.45 by
Kevin Lilly in 2000 and the facility record of 328.60 set by UW-Oshkosh's Phil Devine in 2012. His score of 361.15 on the three-meter broke the UW-L record of 316.20 by
Drew Peterson in 1992 and pool record of 345.50 held by Devine also in 2012.
The Eagles'
Tanner Folvag was second in the one-meter (320.55) and three-meter (312.20) Saturday.
UW-L's 400 freestyle relay of
Ryan Jessen,
Jackson Uselman,
Nicholas Brehmer and
Erich Schnell earned wins (3:12.70) versus both opponents. The 400 medley relay of Kade McGilvrary,
Quinton Maydaniuk,
Daniel Streater and
Ryan Jessen won versus UW-Oshkosh while placing second against UW-Stevens Point (3:35.40).
Individually, Jessen captured the 50 freestyle (21.56) against both opponents while
Stephen Hanko took the 200 I.M. (2:00.96). Hanko also won the 200 backstroke (1:57.69) against the Pointers. Brehmer won the 200 freestyle (1:46.97) versus UW-Oshkosh while finishing second against UW-Stevens Point.
Bryan Frosch won the 500 (4:57.24) and 1,000 (10:19.06) freestyle versus the Titans while his time was fourth against the Pointers. Maydaniuk won the 200 breaststroke (2:21.70) against UW-Oshkosh while finishing fifth versus UW-Stevens Point.
Charleton Skinner took the 200 butterfly (2:04.92) against UW-Oshkosh, which was also second versus UW-Stevens Point. He was second against UW-Oshkosh and third versus UW-Stevens Point in the 200 I.M. (2:02.36).
The Eagles'
Bryan Frosch was third in the 500 freestyle (4:57.24) versus both opponents while
Hunter Burchfield was third in the 200 butterfly (2:05.99) and
Erik Wickstrom finished fourth in the 200 I.M. (2:02.67).
Schnell placed second in the 100 freestyle (48.13) versus UW-Stevens Point and third in the 50 freestyle (21.82) against both.
Caleb Cole was fourth (1:49.13) and
Garrett Runing fifth (1:49.43) in the 200 freestyle versus UW-Stevens Point.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, February 7 at UW-Whitewater at 1 p.m.
