Box Score 2 Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team split its two matches at the Augsburg College (Minn.) Invitational Saturday afternoon in Si Melby Hall. The Eagles fell 3-0 (25-16, 28-26, 25-9) to 22nd-ranked Augsburg (Minn.) in their first match before coming back to earn a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-11) victory over Bethany Lutheran College (Minn.). UW-L is now 5-3 on the season.
The Eagles went 1-1 in Friday's action at the Augsburg Invite, losing 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-7) to ninth-ranked the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) and winning 3-2 (22-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 15-13) over Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.).
Versus Augsburg,
Leah Putzier led UW-L with eight kills while
Abby Scharbarth finished with five and
Sydney Bump with four.
Jaclyn Barrette recorded 23 assists as the Eagles hit .008 for the match with 26 kills and 25 errors in 125 attempts.
Danica Johnson led UW-L with 13 digs while Barrette finished with eight, Putzier seven and
Melanie Martin six.
Augsburg is ranked 22nd on this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 Poll.
In the Eagles' win over Bethany Lutheran, Bump and
Stephanie Henk led the team with nine kills while
Jill Entinger finished with seven and Putzier six. Barrette recorded 28 assists as UW-L hit .257 with 37 kills and 11 errors in 101 attempts.
Johnson had a team-high 10 digs. Martin added seven digs while Putzier and
Ashley Entinger each had six.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, September 10 hosting Saint Mary's University (Minn.) in its home opener. Action gets started at 7 p.m. in Mitchell Hall.
