Box Score 2 Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Augsburg College (Minn.) Invitational in Si Melby Hall Friday night. The Eagles fell 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-7) to ninth-ranked the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) before coming back to earn a 3-2 win (22-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 15-13) over Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.). UW-L is now 4-2 on the season.
Versus St. Thomas (Minn.),
Leah Putzier and
Abby Scharbarth led UW-L with seven kills each.
Jill Entinger finished with six kills, hitting .312 with six kills and one error in 16 attempts.
Jaclyn Barrette recorded 23 assists as the Eagles hit .083 as a team, finishing with 27 kills and 19 errors in 96 attempts.
Putzier, Entinger and
Melanie Martin each had a team-high five digs.
St. Thomas (Minn.) is ranked ninth on this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 Poll.
In the win over Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.), Putzier led UW-L with 16 kills with Scharbarth and
Ida Steingas finishing with nine kills each. Entinger and
Sydney Bump recorded eight kills. Barrette finished with 55 assists as the Eagles hit .130 (59-36-177).
Putzier led four players in double figures in digs with 19.
Danica Johnson finished with 15 with Martin and
Ashley Entinger each totaling 10.
The fifth and deciding set was tied 5-5 when UW-L scored the next three points to lead 8-5. Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) later came back to force a 11-11 tie. The set was 13-13, but the Eagles took a 14-13 lead on a Gusties' hitting error. Putzier then gave UW-L the victory with a kill off a Barrette assist.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, September 6 at the Augsburg Invitational. The Eagles face the host Auggies at noon before playing Bethany Lutheran College (Minn.) at 2 p.m.
