UW-L Opens WIAC Play with Loss at UW-River Falls

Jaclyn Barrette finished with 24 assists and 12 digs Friday night.
Box Score River Falls, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team opened up its 2014 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) season with a 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 27-25) loss at UW-River Falls Friday night in the Karges Center.  The Eagles drop to 7-9 overall and 0-1 in the WIAC while the Falcons are 6-7 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

Stephanie Henk led UW-L with 13 kills Friday, hitting .545 (13 kills, one error, 22 attempts).  Ida Steingas and Jill Entinger each finished with nine kills. Steingas hit .304 (9-2-23) and Entinger .474 (9-0-19).  Jaclyn Barrette recorded 24 assists as the Eagles hit .215 as a team.

Barrette led four players in double figures in digs with 12 while Courtney Geisler, Melanie Martin and Leah Putzier each finished with 11. 

Katie Duff and Brianna Muetzel led UW-River Falls with 14 kills with Duff hitting .462 (14-2-26) and Muetzel .263 (14-4-38).  Rebecca Gasper and Tayler Fertig each had eight assists.  Raven Kline finished with 43 assists as the Falcons hit .232.

Lexi Pingel led five players in double figures in digs with a match-high 17.  Michaela Piechowski recorded 13 while Muetzel and Kline each had 12 and Kadie Brooks 11.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, September 27 at UW-Eau Claire at 2 p.m.
