Box Score 2 Winona, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team swept a pair of matches Saturday at the Saint Mary's University (Minn.) Sugar Loaf Classic in Gostomski Fieldhouse. The Eagles earned a 3-0 (25-21, 25-10, 25-18) victory over North Park University (Ill.) and 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-23) win over the University of Dubuque (Iowa). UW-L is now 3-1 on the season.
"The team had a nice opening weekend, with one athlete having to play out of position and only two of our starters from last season returning," said third-year UW-L head coach
Lily Hallock. "We played a range of opponents and all our healthy athletes saw court time. We will continue to work on a lot of fundamentals this week to prepare for a challenging tournament at Augsburg next weekend."
UW-L split its opening two matches Friday, falling 3-2 (25-20, 22-25, 23-25, 25-21, 12-15) to Wartburg College (Iowa) before coming back to defeat Illinois Wesleyan University 3-0 (27-25, 27-25, 25-17).
In the victory over North Park (Ill.),
Ashley Entinger and
Stephanie Henk each finished with seven kills for UW-L while
Jill Entinger finished with five.
Ashley Entinger hit .545 in the match with seven kills and one error in 11 attempts while
Jill Entinger hit .385 with five kills in 13 attempts.
Maddie Entinger recorded 13 assists and
Jaclyn Barrette 10 as the Eagles hit .176.
Courtney Geisler had a team-leading eight digs in the match while
Sydney Bump totaled seven and
Maddie Entinger six.
Abby Scharbarth recorded five blocks for UW-L.
Versus Dubuque (Iowa),
Ida Steingas led three UW-L players in double figures in kills with 16.
Jill Entinger totaled 12 and
Leah Putzier 11. Entinger hit .429 with 12 kills and three errors in 21 attempts.
Maddie Entinger recorded 46 assists as the Eagles hit .201.
Geisler had a team-high 18 digs while
Maddie Entinger finished with 12.
Ashley Entinger and
Jill Entinger were both selected to the Saint Mary's Sugar Loaf Classic All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of play Saturday.
Ashley Entinger recorded 27 kills in the four matches (1.27 per set) while hitting .270. She also finished with 15 digs.
Jill Entinger registered a team-high 40 kills in the classic (2.86 per set) while hitting .424. She added 25 digs and 5.0 total blocks.
UW-L returns to action Friday, September 5 at the Augsburg College (Minn.) Invitational. The Eagles face the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) at 4 p.m. and Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) at 8 p.m.
