Skogman Named to All-WIAC First Team; Two Earn Honorable Mention

Calahan Skogman averaged 15.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game this season.
Madison, Wis. - University of Wisconsin-La Crosse sophomore forward Calahan Skogman of Seymour (H.S.) has been selected to the 2013-14 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men's Basketball First Team in a vote by the league coaches.  Senior guard Luke Tweed of Fall Creek (H.S.) and junior forward Lucas Collom of Galesville (Galesville-Ettrick-Trempealeau) have been named to the 2013-14 All-WIAC Honorable Mention Team. 

It marks the second straight season Tweed has been named to the honorable mention team.  Skogman and Collom each earned their first career all-league honor.

UW-L junior guard Connor De Bruin of Little Chute (H.S.) was selected to the 2013-14 All-WIAC Sportsmanship Team.

A starter in 25 of 26 games played this season, Skogman led UW-L in scoring (15.8), rebounding (6.2) and assists (2.2).  He ranks sixth in the WIAC in scoring, fifth in rebounding and 11th in assists.

He scored in double figures in 23 of 26 games, including 18 of the last 19.  Skogman had a career-high 28 points at second-ranked UW-Whitewater February 28 in the WIAC Tournament Semifinals.  He also had nine rebounds.  Skogman finished with 23 points and six rebounds in UW-L's win over UW-Oshkosh February 26 in the league's tournament first round. 

He scored at least 20 points in eight different contests this year.  Skogman averaged 19.0 points and 7.3 rebounds in the last 12 games of the season.  He recorded a career-high 11 rebounds in the Eagles' victory over then seventh-ranked UW-Whitewater January 22 while also finishing with 22 points for his first career double-double.  Skogman recorded his second double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds at UW-Eau Claire February 1. 

Skogman led UW-L in three-point field goals attempted (139) while finishing second in three-point field goals made (49).  He had a career-high four three-point field goals made in three different games.  He is seventh in the WIAC in three-point field goals made per game (1.88).

He finished with a career-high five assists versus top-ranked UW-Stevens Point January 25 while also totaling 18 points and six rebounds. 

A transfer from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Skogman played in 27 games with nine starts in 2012-13 for the Bulldogs.  He averaged 5.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.  

Tweed played in 26 games this year with 25 starts while averaging 10.7 points (third on team) and 2.1 rebounds per game.  He tied his career-high with 23 points at UW-Oshkosh December 11 and versus UW-Platteville February 8.  Tweed was four-of-six from three-point range in both games.  He scored a career-high 23 points versus UW-Eau Claire last season, going five-of- seven from three-point range.  The five three-point field goals tied his career-high set versus UW-Stout during the 2010-11 season.

Scoring in double figures in 12 games this season, Tweed finished with 22 points at UW-River Falls February 5.   He was named the WIAC Player of the Week February 10 after averaging 22.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals in two games.  Along with the 22 points against UW-River Falls, Tweed had a career-high four steals while adding three assists versus the Falcons.  He had 23 points and five rebounds against UW-Platteville February 8.

Tweed was third on the team in three-point field goals made (46) and attempted (98) this year while shooting 46.9%.  He had at least one three-point field goal made in 22 of his last 25 games.  Tweed ranks fourth in the WIAC in three-point shooting percentage and ninth in three-point in field goals made per game (1.77). 

He led the Eagles in blocks (14) this year while finishing second in steals (24).  His 0.54 blocks per game ranks 10th in the WIAC. Tweed had a career-high six assists against Olivet College (Mich.) November 15 and tied his career-high with three blocks at Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) December 31. 

Tweed played in 104 career games at UW-L, tying the school record of Corey Block (1986-89) for career starts with 101.  Tweed scored in double figures in 32 career games while averaging 7.6 points and 2.4 rebounds in his four-year playing career.

Collom started all 27 games this season, finishing second on the team in scoring (11.0) and rebounding (5.1).  He scored in double figures in 16 games, including 10 of the last 13.  Collom finished with a career-high 22 points versus UW-Oshkosh January 29, going 10-of-14 from the field and two-of-two at the free throw line.  He also had nine rebounds.  

Collom had 19 points versus Olivet College (Mich.) November 15 and scored 17 in three different games. 

He recorded his third career double-double versus UW-Oshkosh February 26 in the WIAC Tournament First Round with 11 points and career-high 19 rebounds.  The 19 rebounds set a single-game conference tournament record.  Collom had his first career double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds versus Luther College (Iowa) last season. 

Collom shooting 47.6% (120-of-252) from the field this year.

He has played in 79 games in his three-year career at UW-L, including 78 starts.  Collom has scored in double figures in 30 contests.

De Bruin played in all 27 games this season, including two starts, while averaging 2.9 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.  He scored a career-high 16 points in his first career start versus top-ranked UW-Stevens Point January 25, finishing seven-of-nine from the field and two-of-two at the free throw line.

He had nine points and career-high eight rebounds against UW-Oshkosh January 29 while tying his career-high with four assists.  De Bruin shot 44.9% (31-of-69) from the field.

UW-L finished 17-10 overall and 10-6 in the WIAC this season under head coach Ken Koelbl.  The Eagles earned the third seed for the WIAC Tournament, defeating sixth-seeded UW-Oshkosh 76-61 in the first round before falling 76-73 at second-ranked and second-seeded UW-Whitewater.
