Volleyball Team Drops WIAC Match with UW-Whitewater

Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-20) to 23rd-ranked UW-Whitewater Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall.  The Eagles drop to 9-16 overall and 1-5 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Warhawks improve to 21-5 overall and 5-0 in the conference.  UW-Whitewater is ranked 23rd on this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 Poll.

UW-L led 16-13 in the opening set, but UW-Whitewater went on an 8-2 run to lead 21-18.  The Eagles cut the lead to 23-22 before the Warhawks scored the final two points to earn the victory. UW-Whitewater led 11-9 in the second set when it used a 7-2 run to lead 18-11. UW-L raced out to a 5-0 lead to start the third set, but UW-Whitewater scored six of the next seven points to force a tie at 6-6. The Warhawks later led 14-13 and scored three consecutive points to take a 17-13 advantage. UW-L could get no closer than three points the rest of the set.

Ida Steingas led UW-L with 13 kills Wednesday night, hitting .357 with three errors and 28 attempts.  Ashley Entinger finished with seven kills while hitting .455 with two errors in 11 attempts.  Maddie Entinger recorded 20 assists and Paige Schmidt 10 as the Eagles hit .222. 

Courtney Geisler had a team-leading five digs while Steingas finished with four.  Schmidt, Danica Johnson, Melanie Martin and Jill Entinger each had three digs.  Jill Entinger finished with three block assists. 

Jessica Sabey led UW-Whitewater with 14 kills while Lauren Pfeifer finished with 13.  Sabey hit .571 with two errors in 21 attempts while Pfeifer hit .391 with four errors and 23 attempts.  Kim Frei recorded 39 assists as the Warhawks hit .417. 

Kelsey Nobilio had a team-high six digs with Frei and Jaclyn Krizka each finishing with five.  Areil Feiertag recorded four block assists. 

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, October 29 hosting UW-Platteville at 7 p.m. in its regular-season home finale.
