33rd Annual Gershon/McLellan Invitational Results
La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse gymnastics squad captured the 33rd Annual Gershon/McLellan Invitational Friday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles won their fifth straight Gershon/McLellan title with a team score of 185.925. UW-L has won 14 Gershon/McLellan Invitationals in school history.
UW-Oshkosh placed second (180.400) Friday while Winona State University (Minn.) was third (179.400).
The Eagles scored 46.875 on the vault Friday while recording a season-high 46.975 on the uneven parallel bars. The 46.975 is the third-highest score in school history on the uneven bars. UW-L had a school record 47.475 on the uneven bars at the 2004 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships.
UW-L scored 46.800 on the balance beam and 45.275 on the floor exercise Friday.
Three gymnasts captured individual titles for the Eagles Friday.
Kari Willett won the vault (9.500),
Kendall Westrich the balance beam (9.625) and
Ali Berry the floor exercise (9.625).
Willett was also third on the balance beam (9.500) and fifth on the uneven parallel bars (9.375) while Berry finished fifth on the vault (9.325).
Other top individual finishes for UW-L included
Elsa Spitzmueller and
Rachel Riesterer tying for second on the uneven parallel bars (9.450). Spitzmueller also tied for fourth on the balance beam (9.450) while Riesterer was sixth on the beam (9.400).
Nicole Mickelson and
Nicole Wangler tied for second on the vault (9.425).
Kelsi Vomacka placed third on the floor exercise (9.450) while
Morgan Shene was fourth on the uneven parallel bars (9.400).
UW-Oshkosh's Krystal Walker captured the all-around (37.350) while the Titans' Leane Blais won the uneven parallel bars (9.475).
UW-L returns to action Friday, February 7 at the Harley Meet in Milwaukee, Wisconsin starting at 7 p.m.
